Rajasthan: Stampede in Khatu Shyamji Temple leaves three dead

Sikar: At least three people died in a stampede incident which occured at a temple in Rajasthan's Sikar area on Monday.

The tragedy was said to have unfolded when devotees had gathered for a monthly fair at Khatu Shyamji Temple in Sikar.

Two people were reportedly injured in the tragedy.

They were reportedly rushed to hospital for treatment.

The mishap occurred at around 5 am at the entrance of the temple.

Police SP of Sikar, Kunwar Rashtradeep, told NDTV that the situation is under control and the crowd is being regulated.

There was heavy pilgrim presence due to the auspicious Ekadashi day.

The devotees had started gathering at Khatushyamji over the last two days.

The congregation landed for special pujas at the temple complex at dawn.

As the temple administration opened the gates for darshan, the stampede broke out and three women were killed trampled under fellow devotees feet.

There was chaos in the Khatu Shyam temple premises.

Relatives of the devotees started flocking to gather information in the city.

Indian PM Narendra Modi expressed sadness over the death of pilgrims in the incident.

"Saddened by the loss of lives due to a stampede at the Khatu Shyamji Temple complex in Sikar, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray that those who are injured recover at the earliest," he tweeted.

The temple is considered as a crucial pilgrimage site in Rajasthan.
