Rahul Gandhi will become Congress president in 'matter of days': Jyotiraditya Scindia

New Delhi, Oct 18 (IBNS): Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia has reaffirmed that Rahul Gandhi will soon assume the party president's post, media reports said.

In a chat show organised by a news channel, Scindia, a Madhya Pradesh Congress leader, said: "Rahul Gandhi will become the Congress president in a matter of days."

He also said the party will undergo a "churn" very soon, hinting at a structural change in the Congress.

"You will see lot of changes. You will see reaffirmation of what our core beliefs are,” the Congress leader said.

Scindia's comment on Rahul Gandhi, present Congress vice president, came after party president Sonia Gandhi indicated a structural change at the topmost post.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has told media that her son Rahul Gandhi will soon take over the reins of the party.

“You have been asking this for so many years and it’s now happening,” she told NDTV at a function to release former president Pranab Mukherjee’s autobiography, The Coalition Years 1996-2012.

According to media reports citing sources, Rahul will take over the reins of the party after Diwali.

Reports also stated that almost all states, which completed their organisational elections, have passed unanimous resolution demanding Rahul to take charge of the party.

The party’s Central Election Authority (CEA), which is overseeing the organisational polls, will now receive the list of delegates and resolutions from all the states.

Following this process, the election for the new Congress president will begin.
