Rahul Gandhi issued notice to speak on Rafael deal in Parliament

New Delhi, Feb 9 (IBNS) :   Congress president Rahul Gandhi has issued a notice  to speak on the Rafale deal in Parliament on Friday, media reports said.

His move comes in keeping with the Congress' persistent demand for answers from the Government on the agreement  with France in September 2016 for the procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets.

The Congress has alleged irregularities in the Rs. 58,000-crore  deal, saying that the purchase was made at much higher prices.

On Thursday,  Gandhi took to Twitter to demand answers from the Government through Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

"Why did the Raksha Mantri change her stance from: I will reveal the price of the RAFALE planes in Nov 2017 to the price is a state secret in Feb 2018," he said.

Few days ago, Sitharaman had said she cannot reveal the details of the agreement for 36 jets citing it as "classified information".

Reacting to this, Rahul said the unwillingness to reveal the details of the deal implies that it is a scam.
