Quake toll in India 66

New Delhi, Apr 27 (IBNS) Altogether 66 people have been killed in India so far in Saturday's devastating earthquake and aftershocks, with Bihar alone accounting for 51 deaths- the highest in the country.

The tremor that had its origin near Pokhra in Nepal, literally devastated the country killing thousands of people ad flattening structures across a huge area.

Official reports said on Monday that the quake and aftershocks that rocked entire north and  east of India besides some parts of the northeast, also left 288 people injured.

In Uttar Pradesh 12 people died and 70 injured while the toll is two in West Bengal and one in Rajasthan. Altogether 173 people were injured in Bihar.

In Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed officials to  carry out relief work on a war footing by distributing foodgrain and other materials.

Five teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Bihar and one in UP for rescue and relief operations of affected people.
