President Ram Nath Kovind departs for state visit to Philippines

New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI): President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday departed for a state visit to the Philippines, where he will hold restricted and delegation-level talks with his Philippines counterpart Rodrigo Roa Duterte in Manila.

Kovind will also participate in business and community events. He will also interact with the Indian community there which numbers about 1,30,000.

The official Twitter account of Rashtrapati Bhavan said, 'President Kovind departs for a state visit to the Philippines. This is the first state visit by a President to Philippines in 13 years. Following the same, the President shall visit Japan to attend the Enthronement Ceremony of Emperor Naruhito'.

Kovind, along with his wife Savita Kovind, is on a week-long visit to the Philippines and Japan from Oct 17 to 23. The President's visit to the two nations reaffirms India's commitment to strengthen its bilateral ties based on traditional bonds of friendship.

While the President will pay a state visit to Philippines from Oct 17 to 21, he will visit Japan from Oct 21 to 23, to attend the Enthronement Ceremony of the Emperor Naruhito of Japan.
