PM Narendra Modi to attend special Buddha Jayanti function in New Delhi on Monday

New Delhi, Apr 28 (IBNS): The Union Ministry of Culture, on Saturday, said in a release that it will organise an event in collaboration with International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) to celebrate Buddha Jayanti-2018, which falls on Monday, April 30.

The programme, to be held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Minister of State for Culture (I/C), Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju and Dr. Dhammapiya, Secretary General, IBC will also be present.

PM Modi and other guests will pay their respects to the sacred relics, which will be  specially brought for the occasion from the National Museum, New Delhi, to the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

The Prime Minister will also be performing the offering of Sangha Dana (Cheevar Vastram and Sacred Leaf of Bodhi Tree) to the venerated Sangha, the release said.

The event will also house an exhibition gallery- ‘Buddham Sarnam Gacchami’ with murals, photographs and artifacts.

The United Nation has also officially recognized the importance of this auspicious day in 1999, considering the contemporary  relevance of Buddha’s teachings of compassion and humanism in these modem times.
