PM Modi calls on Israel President Rivlin, pledges friendship

Jerusalem, Jul 5 (IBNS) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called on Israel President Reuven Rivlin to a warm welcome and said India and Israel will turn out to be great allies, cooperating in various fields. .

 "Beginning the morning with the First Citizen! Day 2 in Jerusalem starts with PM @narendramodi calling on President @PresidentRuvi," MEA spokesperson Gopal Baglay tweeted.

Modi said on his tweeter handle : "The President of Israel welcomed me so warmly, he broke protocol. This is a mark of respect for the people of India."

Responding to President Revlin's warm welcome note, Modi said that he was overwhelmed by the incredibly warm welcome and love that he received in Israel.

"Prez Rivlin describes PM as one of d greatest democratic leaders at present, and recalls his warm discussion w world leaders abt India," Baglay tweeted.

The PM recalled his visit as CM in '06 whn he visited the house of the first  PM of Israel Ben Gurion whose bed room had picture of Mahatma Gandhi, he said.

Modi thanked  Prez Rivlin for going out of way to receive him at alighting point, terms it a mark of honour for 1.25 billion people of India.

Later in the day, Modi will  hold talks with his Israeli counterpart  Netanyahu and and address a press briefing afterwards.

Modi will then meet Baby Moshe Holzberg, the child who survived the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
