Over 28,000 teaching posts upto High school level lying vacant in Assam

Guwahati, March 14 : Over 32,000 posts, including 28,000 teaching posts, are lying vacant in the government run schools in Assam.

In a written reply to a query by Congress legislator Jakir Hussain Sikdar, in the ongoing budget session of Assam assembly, Assam Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday informed the house that, at present 15,852 teaching posts are lying vacant in the Middle English and High schools across the state.

“12,121 teaching posts (regular teacher) are lying vacant in the Primary schools,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The Assam Education minister also informed the house that, 999 third grade and 2,113 fourth grade posts are vacant in the Middle English and High schools while 1,189 fourth grade posts are vacant in the Primary schools.

At present, 1,54,328 teachers are working in the Primary, Middle English and High schools in the state.

The Assam minister said that, among them, 99,234 teachers are currently working in the Primary schools in the state.

Currently, Assam has 51,950 government run schools including 47,818 Primary schools.
