Obscene attack on Mamata Banerjee: Bengal CID summons CPI-M leader Gautam Deb

Kolkata, Aug 17 (IBNS): West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has served a notice to Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Gautam Deb in connection with its ongoing investigation into his alleged 'obscene' attack on state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, sources said.

CID officials said that the notice was served last week asking Gautam Deb to appear at CID headquarters at Bhabani Bhaban in Kolkata around 11 am on Friday (Aug 18) for interrogation.

According to reports, months ago Gautam Deb allegedly made an obscene attack on Mamata Banerjee while addressing a mass rally at Netaji Nagar in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.

Following the incident, a woman lodged a complaint against the senior CPI-M leader at Uttarpara Police Station in Hooghly district of West Bengal on Apr 4 and police lodged an FIR against Gautam Deb under several IPC sections, including 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 209 (Dishonestly making false claim in court).

Later CID took over the probe and has summoned the CPI-M leader in order to quiz him in connection with the case, CID officials said.

According to sources, Gautam Deb will not appear before the CID investigators on Friday as his health condition is not well.
