NIA, Assam police special branch launched massive ops against NDFB(S)

Guwahati, Aug 6 (IBNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday launched jointly massive operation with the Assam police special branch to nab the NDFB(S) militants, who were involved in the Aug 5 carnage in Kokrajhar district, officials said.

 
A top official of the investigation agency said the NIA and the Assam police special branch had jointly launched operation against the NDFB(S) militants.

Meanwhile, a four member team of NIA from Guwahati on Saturday had visited the spot and collected information from the eyewitness where 14 civilians were killed and 18 others were injured in indiscriminate firing by Bodo militants at Balajan area in the BTAD district.

On the other hand, the slain NDFB(S) militant was identified on Saturday, who was gunned down by security forces during gun fight.

Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, who visited the site on Friday said  the slain militant was identified as Manjay Islari alias Maoudang and he was the self styled commander of NDFB(S) 16th battalion.

“It was not a suicide attack. The militant was killed during the gun battle with security forces,” Dr Sarma said.

Meanwhile, an injured person named Tejon Basumutary had succumbed to his injuries on Saturday leading death toll rose to 15.
