Nazma Heptullah named Manipur Governor

New Delhi, Aug 17 (IBNS): Najma Heptullah, who had earlier served as Union Minister, has been appointed as the new Governor of Manipur, official said.

Banwarilal Purohit has been appointed as the Governor of Assam.

V.P. Singh Badnore was named the Governor of  Punjab.

"Prof. Jagdish Mukhi as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands vice Lt. Gen. (Retd.) A.K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM," read a government statement.

"The above appointments will take effect from the dates the incumbents assume charge of their respective offices," it said.

  Heptullah  who  had resigned from the Union Ministry in July after attaining 75 years of age, will be the 18th Governor of Manipur.

Manipur goes to polls in February next year.
