Nation unites to celebrate Independence Day

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IBNS): The entire nation joined hands in celebrating 70th Independence Day with Prime Minister leading from the front as he joined the celebration and addressed the nation from Red Fort on Monday.

Remembering leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jwaharlala Nehru, Modi wished the nation on the special occasion of the year.

"It is true that India faces a lot of problems, but we have the capacity to find solutions. Today, more than Karya, I want to talk about Karya Sanskriti of the Government," Modi said.

From the achievements of his three-year-old government to the GST issue, Modi highlighted several matters and even slammed neightbouring nation Pakistan for 'glorifying' terrorism.

"I tell those who believe in human values, to weigh in the scale of humanity, when innocent children were massacred in a school in Peshawar. In India, every school was weeping, there were tears in the eyes of every parliamentarian. That was a reflection of our human value, but look at the other side which glorifies terrorists," Modi said.

"Violence has no place in our country. This country will not tolerate terrorism and Maoism," he said.

Meanwhile, Independence Day was also celebrated in different parts of the country amid tight security.

Small functions are bring held in every locality in India to mark the special day of the year.

Keeping in mind the importance of the day, special pages have been published across newspapers while patriotic songs are being played across radio station to keep the spirit and mood of the day alive.

Special programmes on Independence Day are being shown on many channels today.

Meanwhile, politicians celebrities from different walks of life wished the nation via social networking sites.

Union Finance Minister  Arun Jaitley tweeted,"Congratulations & best wishes to fellow citizens on the occasion of 70th Independence Day of our country.Jai Hind."

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said: "Heartiest greetings on Independence day."

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted: "Happy Independence Day to you. Hoisted the National Flag at my residence on the occasion of #IndependenceDayIndia."

Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu greeted the nation by saying:  "Independence Day greetings to all Indians... Jai Hind."

Posing a video, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted: " not a dry eye after seeing this .. !!! Happy Independence Day."

Singing icon Lata Mageshkar posted: "Namaskar.Swatantrata Diwas ki aap sab ko hardik shubhkaamanayein. Main meri Bharat bhumi ko hriday se vandan karti hun."
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan said: "Happy Independence Day to my country women & men 15th Aug 2016. A day of Pride, Happiness Love &."

Actress Priyanka Chopra tweeted: "And how much I miss being home today. Happy Independence Day to the country that is my identity… https://www.instagram.com/p/BJHNcYjAWC5/ ."

Actress Madhuri Dixit said: "#HappyIndependenceday to all. Proud to be an Indian ."

Actor Akshay Kumar said: "Saw a sea of people cheering on with the flags yesterday. What a sight! Happy #IndependenceDayIndia."

Former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar tweeted: "Happy Independence Day.. Pls remember to take care of those who are dependent on us. Culture of Care for the Elderly."

Tennis player Leander Paes posted: "India in my heart..& in my veins..Bleed Blue..To all my Indians all over the world ..Happy #IndependenceDayIndia."
