Modi government's Pakistan policy is based on wholesale confusion: Congress

New Delhi, Sept 23 (IBNS): The Congress on Friday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the recent militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri town, which left 18 soldiers martyred, and said the Centre's Pakistan policy is based on 'wholesale confusion'.

"Modi government's Pakistan policy is based on wholesale confusion rather than pragmatic cohesion," Congress leader Tom Vadakkan told media.

Referring to Modi's last year's sudden visit to Pakistan to attend country's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Congress leader said: "Prior to 2014 Elections, Modi ji constantly counselled the Congress government to stop writing love letter to Pakistan. Modi ji used rhetoric of 56 inch chest & said he'd bring back 10 heads in exchange for 1. On becoming PM, Modi ji has used Sari-shawl diplomacy."

"He attended wedding celebrations and birthday parties with Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif," he said.

Paying a short and sudden visit to Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Dec 25 last year.

He also attended Sharif's home in Lahore where his grand-daughter's wedding was being held.

The Congress said Pakistan is attempting to re-position itself positively due to the Modi government.

"Net affect has been that a renegade nation like Pakistan which stood isolated because of the policies of UPA government is now attempting to re-position itself positively, all thanks to Modi government," Tom Vadakkan said.

"India has faced terrorist attacks in Udhampur, Gurdaspur, Pathankot & Pampore, where we lost brave security personnel. In response to Pathankot attack, Modi Govt invited a Pakistani investigation team to the airbase, headed by dreaded ISI," he said.

Referring to the Pathankot attack, he said: "NIA subsequently gave a clean chit to the Pakistani government. We hope they don't repeat that in the case of the Uri Attack."

Attacking the Modi government, the Congress said reports on the Uri attack pointed to massive intelligence and operational failure.

"What is the accountability for the intelligence & operational failure which led to the Uri Attack?," Vadakkan said.

Kashmir's Uri town was hit by a major terrorist attack on Sunday which left 18 Indian soldiers martyred.
