New Delhi, July 9 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said it was a matter of 'joy' that UNESCO has named Gujarat's Ahmadabad city as a heritage city.

Modi tweeted: "A matter of immense joy for India!"

"Just inscribed as @UNESCO #WorldHeritage Site: Historic City of Ahmadabad #India http://en.unesco.org/41whc  #41whc," the UNESCO tweeted.

Modi had earlier served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat before being elected as the Prime Minister in 2014.
