Massive fire guts plastic godown in Kolkata, no casualties

Kolkata, Mar 11 (IBNS): A major fire broke out at a plastic goods' warehouse in eastern Kolkata's Dhapa area on Sunday afternoon, reports said.

According to reports, the fire was first seen at around 1:45 pm. inside the godown near EM Bypass and it triggered panic among locals as a slum is located nearby.

Immediately after noticing the fire, locals started firefighting efforts in the area.

As many as 10 fire tenders, local police and Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel joined the operation later.

Firemen fought for nearly 2 hours to douse the massive blaze.

A local police official confirmed that no casualty was reported in the incident while the godown and few nearby shanties were gutted due to the fire.

However, police and fire department have started investigating the cause of the fire.
