Lalu ridicules JD-U’s move to go it alone in Gujarat, says same will happen in Bihar too

Patna, Oct 29 (TheBiharPost): RJD president Lalu Prasad on Sunday ridiculed JD-U’s move to go it alone in the Gujarat assembly elections and predicted the same would ultimately happen in Bihar too.

“The continuing alliance between the BJP and the JD-U is not permanent. It’s slowly heading for collapse,” Prasad told the media on Sunday before leaving for Ranchi.

He predicted JD-U would ultimately fight against the BJP in Bihar too, citing spate of recent political developments indicating “shabby treatment” to the JD-U by the BJP.

Prasad’s comments came hours after JD-U led by chief minister Nitish Kumar announced on Saturday that it won’t have any truck with the BJP in the Gujarat elections and said it would contest the assembly elections on its own—a move indicting all is not well with the two partners.

Gujarat which goes to polls in December is currently ruled by the BJP. Incidentally, the JD-U returned to the BJP camp only in July this year.

“We will contest the Gujarat assembly elections on our traditional seats…We won’t form any alliance with any party, including the BJP,” JD-U spokesperson KC Tyagi was quoted as saying in the local media on Saturday.

This is the second significant political developments indicating the two partners were slowly moving in opposite directions.

Earlier this month, another spokesperson of the party Pavan Kumar Varma had questioned the ‘impartiality’ of the Election Commission after it chose to announce poll dates for Himachal Pradesh but ignored Gujarat.

Varma had raised the party’s concern over the EC’s role in a tweet.

“EC must not only be impartial but seen to be so. Why have the dates for Gujarat elections not been announced? We need credible answers,” tweeted Varma recently.

According to him, the EC must provide for a “credible reason” for not announcing poll dates for Gujarat although the party later distanced itself from his tweet.
