Kolkata, Aug 4 (IBNS): A teacher of St. Stephen's School in Kolkata's Dumdum area allegedly beat up a fourth standard student on Wednesday as the girl wrote wrong roll number on her exam paper, reports said.

According to reports, the student at first did not write her roll number on answer sheet and when the accused math teacher, Piush Malakar, directed her to mention it, she wrote a wrong roll number.

Then the kid was beaten up badly by the math teacher and she sustained an ear injury, her family members claimed.

However, the student's family lodged a complaint against the teacher at Dumdum Police Station and several guardians of other students staged demonstration at the school premise on Thursday.

The school has suspended the teacher, Piush Malakar.

Police have started investigation into the matter and a large police force have been deployed to the school area to control the law and order, officials said.
