Kolkata: Security beefed up at Howrah railway station following terror threat

Kolkata, Dec 12 (IBNS): After the railway authority received a letter with terror threat, the Howrah railway station near Kolkata has been put under a foolproof security blanket, reports said.

According to reports, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Eastern Railway received a letter on last Friday via Speed Post, where one Subhas Chandra Das demanded 50 crore rupees, on behalf of Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad, from Eastern Rail's General Manager (GM).

The sender of the letter, who claimed to be a former director of Doordarshan, also threatened to blow up Howrah railway station and other important stations under Eastern Railway division, if rail authority does not pay him the money.

Following the terror threat, Eastern Railway informed the Kolkata Police about the matter and has stepped up security at Howrah and other busy stations, including Sealdah railway station, under the division.

Besides Railway Protection Force (RPF), the Kolkata Police have also commenced a probe into the matter to know the letter's authenticity and to trace its sender.
