Shimla, May 3 (IBNS): Solan police on Thursday arrested hotel owner Vijay Singh Thakur for allegedly killing assistant town and country planner of Kasauli, Shail Bala, during a demolition drive in Mando Matkanda area of Kasauli on Tuesday.

Singh was arrested from Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh.

He was a since absconding since the murder.

This comes after the Supreme Court took a suo motu cognizance over the Kasauli violence, in which the town planner was shot to death by the hotel owner as the former was implementing the Supreme Court's directive of demolishing illegal constructions in the hill town of Himachal Pradesh, media reports said.

Singh,  the owner of Narayani Guest House, fired when a team of Public Works Department (PWD) started pulling down a part of the hotel at Mando Matkanda.

The firing injured another officer seriously.

When a team of police, which was present in the adjacent building, reached the spot, Singh took to his heels.

When Shail reached the spot with an intent to executive the top court's order, she had received resistance from Singh and his mother Narayani Devi.

The Supreme Court on Apr 17 reportedly directed the Himachal Pradesh government to demolish all illegal constructions, rejecting the pleas of hoteliers against a National Green Tribunal.
