Karnataka man murdered in Sharjah, body found cut into nine parts: Brother
A man from Karnataka's Udupi district was allegedly murdered in Sharjah, with his body later found cut into nine parts and packed inside two bags, his brother said on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Alwin Prakash Kunder from Kundapur, had been working at Sharjah airport for the past 14 years.
He had returned to Sharjah after visiting his hometown in December last year.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, while reports that his wife and teenage son are missing have not yet been independently confirmed.
Strange message raised alarm
According to Prakash's brother, Anil Prashanth Kunder, he tried calling Prakash on July 20 but received no answer. Instead, he received a text message saying that Prakash was fine.
Anil said the message appeared unusual because his brother had never communicated with him in that manner before.
When Prakash failed to respond to another call a week later, Anil became suspicious and contacted Prakash's classmate, Manohar, who was in Sharjah, asking him to check on him.
Manohar reportedly went to the company-provided flat where Prakash was staying. However, the building watchman allegedly told him that Prakash had travelled to India.
Passport records exposed discrepancy
Anil subsequently contacted Prakash's employer's HR department. He said the company initially also told him that Prakash had returned to India.
The following day, Anil contacted the company again and insisted that Prakash had not travelled to India. He asked the company to verify his whereabouts.
The company then checked Prakash's passport records and found that he was still in Sharjah. A missing-person complaint was subsequently filed.
Body found in car on Oman route
During the investigation, Prakash's body was reportedly discovered inside a car parked along a route leading towards Oman.
According to his brother, the body had allegedly been dismembered into nine parts and packed into two bags.
Anil said the family received Prakash's post-mortem report only on Monday.
Wife, son reportedly missing
Prakash's wife, Tina Kunder, originally from Udyavara in Udupi, works as a schoolteacher in Sharjah. Their son is reportedly studying in Class 10.
There has been no clear information about the whereabouts of Tina and their son, although some reports have claimed that they are missing.
Their status has not been independently established.
Brother seeks action
Anil met the Udupi Superintendent of Police on Monday and submitted a representation seeking action in connection with his brother's death.
The motive behind the alleged murder and the circumstances leading to Prakash's death remain unknown.
Authorities in Sharjah are expected to investigate the case further, establish the sequence of events and determine who was responsible for the killing.
