Kanhaiya claims he was beaten in presence of police in court premises
New Delhi, Feb 27 (IBNS): Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been arrested on sedition charges, claimed that he was beaten and almost disrobed in the presence of police personnel in Patiala House Court premises, media reports said.
The alleged incident happened when a group of lawyers beat Kanhaiya and mediapersons in the court premises on February 17.
Following the incident, the Supreme Court formed a team of five lawyers to submit a report on the incident in the court.
Several JNU students have been arrested for glorifying Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and being part of an event where anti-India slogans were raised, triggering a nationwide debate that sharply divided the people.
JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested first on sedition charges after anti-India slogans were raised inside the JNU campus at an event to observe the death anniversary of Guru.
Later other students, including Umar Khalid, surrendered to police.
