ITI student lynched in WB: CID files charge sheet against 13
Kolkata, Jul 29 (IBNS): West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday filed charge sheet before a local court in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district in connection with a student lynching case against 13 persons, including a local leader of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), officials said.
According to reports, the CID has charged 13 persons, under IPC section 302 (Murder), in the 383-page charge sheet in connection with the case that occurred in Diamond Harbour area.
One Billu Ghorui, who were arrested while escaping with Tapas Mullick, has also been named in the charge sheet. He has been charged under IPC section 212 (Harbouring offender) for giving shelter to Tapas Mullick and helping him flee to another place, CID officials said.
Earlier on May 9, ITI student Kaushik Purkait was badly beaten up by angry villagers at Bahadurpur village in Diamond Harbour, over a false allegation of buffalo-stealing. Local TMC leader Tapas Mullick allegedly led the lynching and prevented his family members from taking seriously injured Kaushik to hospital until they promised to pay a large amount of rupees as compensation.
Few days later, CID took over the probe and twelve out of total 13 persons, who were named in the FIR, were arrested, while one accused is still absconding.
