India observes National Youth Day, Bengal celebrates Swami Vivekananda's birthday

New Delhi/Kolkata, Jan 12 (IBNS) India on Tuesday observed Swami Vivekananda's birthday also known as National Youth Day.

Born as Narendranath Dutta in Kolkata, Swami Vivekananda is an Indian Hindu Monk known for his spiritualist thoughts and his service towards mankind.

Swamiji garnered global fandom after his speech in the famous Chicago Parliament of Religions, where he not only spoke about Hinduism but about Indian values too.

His welcome sentence, "Sisters and brothers of America", is said to have taken the audience by a pleasant surprise who reportedly gave him a two-minute standing ovation. 

Vivekananda is the disciple of Ramakrishna, a famous Indian mystic. Vivekananda also founded the Ramkrishna Mission and the order of monks, all dedicated to his guru.

On his birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I salute the venerable Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary."

Chief Minister of Bengal Mamata Banerjee said, "Homage to the great visionary Swami Vivekananda on his 153rd birth anniversary. Let us follow his ideals to build a better India."

Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, "Arise! Awake! and stop not until the goal is reached.My Tribute 2 patriotic saint of modern India #SwamiVivekananda on his Birth Anniversary."
