India celebrates May Day today, lawmakers pay tribute to workers

New Delhi, May 1 (IBNS): Lawmakers on Tuesday paid tributes to workers as the country is celebrating the International Workers' Day, which is also known as May Day.

May Day is the celebration of the International Workers' Day.

May Day is a public holiday usually celebrated on May 1.

It is an ancient northern hemisphere spring festival.

It is also a traditional spring holiday in many cultures.

On this occasion, Union Minister Arun Jaitley tweeted, "Labour Day greetings to every workman. On this day we celebrate contributions and achievements of workers and reiterate their rights. I wish workers the very best & applaud their contributions in the economy. #LabourDay"

Union Minister Babul Supriyo said in a tweet, "Every year, #MayDay is marked as a celebration of people who dedicatedly labour all year round for their respective organizations and nations. My tribute to all those who work tirelessly in constructing and developing our nation's socio-economic status on #LaborDay"
