India-Brazil hold bilateral talks in Goa and sign four MoUs

Benaulim (Goa)/New Delhi, Oct 17 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Michel Temer of Brazil on Monday for a bi-lateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS 2016 summit held in Goa, according to media reports.

PM Narendra Modi said, "Honored to welcome President Temer to India. Delighted that Goa with its distinct Portuguese heritage is part of his maiden visit here."

The Prime Minister's Office sent out a series of tweets quoting Narendra Modi on the meeting:

"This visit takes place as both countries mark a decade of our strategic partnership."

"The bilateral relations between India and Brazil have grown for the better. We have increased interaction at all levels."

"President @MichelTemer and I have reviewed the full range of bilateral cooperation," is what the Modi said during a joint press conference tweeted his office.

The Indian PM expressed his happiness that India and Brazil are close to finalizing the text of a  bilateral investment agreement, according to media reports.

"We have made progress in opening new areas of cooperation during this visit in drug regulation, agricultural research & cyber security," the Indian PM said.

He also said that India deeply appreciates Brazil's support for India’s actions in combating terrorism.

"Both bilaterally and multilaterally, the partnership between India and Brazil is filled with possibilities that we are keen to harvest," the PMO quoted Modi through tweets.

An India-Brazil business meet was also organised on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.

Tweeted Vikas Swarup, official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, "Opening New Vistas in a Strategic Partnership. PM @narendramodi & President @MichelTemer witness exchange of 4 cross sectoral MoUs."

Swarup tweeted that PM Modi said, "India can be a valuable partner in reviving Brazil's domestic eco agenda.I welcome Brazilian companies to invest &forge long term p'ships."

Swarup also tweeted the PM as saying, "We thank Brazil for understanding India's aspiration for membership of the Nuclear Suppliers' Group."
