Govt announces names of 30 more cities under Smart City programme

New Delhi, June 23 (IBNS) :The Government on Friday released another list of 30 cites as smart cities under its urban development programme, reports said.

Kerala capital Thiruvanathapuram topped the list of the cities followed by  Chhattisgarh's new capital Naya Raipur.

The names were announced by Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu.

Jammu & Kashmir capital Srinagar and the state's summer capital Jammu  made it to the list besides the Uttarakhand capital of Dehradun, among other cities.

However,  Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's constituency Raebareli does not figure in it.

The Government was supposed to announce the names of 40 cities, but it came out with only 30 names  because of the non-participation of Mumbai and Bengal.

These cities have proposed to invest Rs 57,393 crore under respective smart city plans.

With this, the total number of such cities have gone up to 90.
