Former union minister Arif Beg passes away in Bhopal

Bhopal, Sep 5 (IBNS): Former union minister and senior BJP leader Arif Beg passed away in Bhopal,,according to media sources on Monday.

He was 81 years.

Beg was a minister of state (1977-79) in the Morarji Desai led Janta Party government at the centre.

In 1977, he ran for parliament on the Bharatiya Lok Dal ticket from Bhopal and won the seat.

In 1989 he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Betul constituency.

Beg left the BJP after it came to power at the Centre in 1999 and joined the Congress but rejoined the BJP in 2003, according to media reports.
