Former Army chief opposes calls for sharing proof of India's surgical strikes

New Delhi, Oct 5 (IBNS) : As calls have been raised from different quarters for sharing the footage of India's surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control, former army chief General Shankar Roychowdhury has vehemently opposed revealing any such proof, saying that would go benefiting Pakistan.

He told NDTV that  India should not put out any information on the operation in the public domain.

"It is an ongoing operation and the ISI (Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence) and Pakistan army are eagerly looking forward to whatever they can pick up, particularly from the Indian media, because 80 per cent of all intelligence comes from open sources," General Roychowdhury, who was army chief from 1994 to 1997, said.

The former army chief asserted that India should not put out its secret information on open sources. "The Pak ISI and army are waiting to pick up intelligence about India's operational techniques," he said.

Last Wednesday, Indian troops went across the Line of Control and staged assault on seven terrorist launch pads, which they said, caused "significant casualties."

Pakistan, however, denied any surgical strike having taken place, claiming there was only "cross-border firing."

Opposition Congress leaders and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the Narendra Modi Government to share the  proof of the strikes- a suggestion that has been criticised by the ruling BJP.
