Euthanasia: Supreme Court allows 'living will' with strict guidelines

New Delhi, Mar 9 (IBNS): In a landmark judgement on euthanasia, the Supreme Court on Friday allowed all individuals to have '"living will" but with strict guidelines, media reports said.

"Living will" will permit every individual to seek euthanasia, which allows one to end his/her life due to prolonged illness or irreversible vegetative state.

The judgement has been passed by a five-member bench, which enforced strict guidelines to seek passive euthanasia.

The friends or relatives of the ill person can seek passive euthanasia but a final call will be taken by a medical board.

The friends or families will have to approach the high court which will form the medical board.

The directives of the top court will prevail till a law is formulated and enforced.
