Washington, June 27 (IBNS): Meeting US President Donald Trump for the first time, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said eliminating terrorism is an issue of topmost priorities of the two nations.

US President Donald J Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed the Indian Prime Minister to the White House where the first meeting took place between the leaders.

"Both India and USA are global engines of growth. Eliminating terrorism is among the topmost priorities for us," the Indian leader said.

Modi said: "We held talks on wide range of issues pertaining to the India-USA relationship."

The Prime Minister said India considers the USA as a valued partner in his government's flagship programmes.

"Trade, commerce and investment are key areas. Technology, innovation and knowledge economy are also areas were are actively looking at," he said.

Modi said he discussed issue related to terrorism with the US leader.

"We discussed the problems arising due to terrorism and radicalisation," he said.

Modi said India and USA agreed to work closely on boosting maritime trade and cooperation.

On the other hand, Trump said India and USA will always be together in 'friendship and respect'.

Trump said India will always have a 'true friend' in the White House and the relationship between the two nations have become stronger during his regime.

"You have a true friend in the White House...our ties have never been stronger and better," Trump said.

Modi is currently visiting the USA.
