Kolkata, Dec 4 (IBNS): Huge quantity of scrapped Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes in torn and mutilated condition were recovered from Jhalgachi area under Rajarhat Police Station limits in Kolkata on Sunday morning, reports said.

According to reports, locals found few packets, filled with torn notes, and called in the police.

Police, however, recovered the currency and have started counting to know the exact amount of those notes.

"As all notes have been mutilated, it would take time to know the exact amount of the scrapped notes," a police officer told IBNS.

The Centre on Nov 8 announced banning of old Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes.
