Demonetisation: Elderly man dies standing in bank queue in West Bengal
According to reports, the elderly man, who has been identified as Rabin Mukherjee, was standing in a queue of State Bank of India since morning to withdraw money from his account.
At around 12 pm, the nearly 73-year-old complained sickness and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
Following the incident, locals blocked roads and railway tracks at the area, which led harassment of passengers.
A heavy police force rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.
More than 70 people, most of them elderly, have reportedly died across the country while standing in queues in front of banks and ATMs across the country since demonetisation was announced on November eight.
The issue has already rocked Parliament with the Opposition demanding a statement from the Government.
