Ernakulam, Dec 12 (IBNS): A Kerala sessions court, on Tuesday, pronounced Ameer-ul-Aslam guilty of rape and murder of a 30-year old law student, according to media reports.

The quantum of punishment will be announced on Wednesday.

The rape and murder of the law student, almost a repeat of the brutality seen in the Nirbhaya case, took place in April 2016; its gruesome nature shocking the country.

The police arrested Ameer-ul-Aslam, said to be a migrant labourer, 50 days after the incident.

The student's mother, who had discovered the body with wounds from sharp objects and the intestines pulled out, was present in court on Tuesday.

NDTV quoted the mother as saying, ""I am happy that he has been convicted. I want him to get death sentence. He killed my daughter, now he should be killed. What happened to my daughter, should not happen to anyone else."
