CBI moves court for Karti Chidambaram's narco test

New Delhi, March 8 (IBNS) : The CBI  has  moved a special court in New Delhi seeking permission to conduct narco analysis test on Karti Chidambaram, arrested in an alleged money laundering case in connection to INX media, media reports said.

The investigating agency,  on Wednesday,  requested Special Judge Sunil Rana to conduct the narco test, saying it would help unearth the conspiracy in the case.

The court directed the investigating agency to move an application before it on Friday, when former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son will be presented before the court on expiry of his three-day CBI custody, granted on Tuesday.

The  CBI had earlier  alleged that  Chidambaram was not cooperating in the investigation and was "evasive" in his replies.

The Supreme Court earlier refused to grant interim relief to Karti, who has been arrested in an alleged money laundering case in connection to INX media, media reports said.

Karti was arrested on February 28 at the Chennai airport on his return from the UK, in connection with the FIR lodged on May 15 last year alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds worth about Rs. 305 crore in 2007 when his father P Chidambaram was the Union finance minister.

Karti's arrest followed the statements given by Peter Mookerjee and Indrani Mookerjee in this connection.

Meanwhile, media reports said that the Enforcement Directorate has  also recorded the statement of senior journalist Vir Sanghvi in the case in January 2018. Sanghvi claims to be the “whistleblower” in the case.
