‘Bangladesh showed us the way’: Neha Bora’s remarks spark BJP attack on Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi/IBNS: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Opposition of harbouring a regime-change agenda after student leader Neha Bora praised Bangladesh's Gen Z movement, saying it had shown the way to young people in India.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari shared a video on X in which Bora, the national president of the All India Students' Association (AISA), was heard expressing solidarity with Bangladeshi student activists and drawing parallels between youth-led movements in the two countries.
The remarks have triggered a political row amid ongoing protests in India over alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision process.
BJP calls remarks an admission of regime-change agenda
In the video, Bora was heard praising Bangladesh's Gen Z movement and acknowledging its influence on young people in India.
"We present you with our red salute. And we know that the Gen-Z movement that we are seeing everywhere in this country first started in Bangladesh," she said.
"And congratulations to you for showing us the way, for showing us and extending solidarity to the young people of this country," she added.
Bhandari described Bora as Rahul Gandhi's "poster girl" and interpreted her remarks as an indication of an alleged Opposition plan to bring about regime change in India, drawing a parallel with the political upheaval in Bangladesh in 2024.
In a post on X, the BJP spokesperson wrote, "Neha Bora, Rahul Gandhi's poster girl says-‘Bangladesh showed us the way’ for Revolution! This is Open Admission of Regime Change! Rahul Gandhi & Co are a threat to Indian Democracy!"
The BJP's allegations came in response to Bora's remarks praising the student-led movement in Bangladesh. Her comments, however, did not explicitly call for the overthrow of India's government.

What happened during Bangladesh's Gen Z movement?
Bangladesh witnessed a major student-led uprising in 2024, which began with protests against a government job quota system before escalating into a broader movement demanding the resignation of then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The demonstrations intensified amid a violent crackdown and widespread public anger, culminating in Hasina's resignation and departure from the country in August 2024. The uprising subsequently became a defining moment in Bangladesh's political landscape.
Neha Bora emerges as a prominent face of youth protests
Bora, a PhD student at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and a left-wing activist, has emerged as a prominent figure in the recent youth-led protest movement in India.
She has participated in demonstrations against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and other government policies, drawing attention to allegations of voter deletions and concerns over electoral transparency.
Bora has also been seen alongside Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during protests linked to the electoral roll controversy.
The BJP and the Opposition remain sharply divided over the allegations surrounding the revision exercise, with the controversy becoming a flashpoint in the wider political confrontation between the ruling party and opposition groups.
