Assam: Woman gives birth to baby girl in running train

Guwahati, May 2 (IBNS): A woman gave birth to a baby girl in the running Dibrugarh – Chandigarh express in Assam on Wednesday . 

Aparna Khatun, aged 24 years, was travelling by coach number B3 along with her husband Mohammad Gulam from New Tinsukia to Mirzapur when enroute she experienced labour pain and gave birth to a baby girl.

The train was stopped at Nazira station, where RPF personnel along with other railway staff promptly arranged for shifting the mother and child to Civil hospital at Nazira.

Pranav Jyoti Sharma, CPRO, NF Railway said in a official press release that, on duty railway staff rendered prompt medical help to the lady passenger who gave birth to a baby girl while travelling by the 15903 Dibrugarh – Chandigarh express. 

Both of them are safe. The prompt action by railway has been widely appreciated by the co-passengers and public alike.

It is to be mentioned that RPF of N.F. Railway has launched a special drive for the security of women and children in railway premises all over N.F. Railway.

There has also been an increase in assistance calls to 182, the 24 x 7 helpline number.
