Assam State Election Commission plans to hold panchayat poll before Feb 15

 Guwahati, Nov 29 (IBNS): Assam State Election Commission is planning to hold the panchayat poll in the state before February 15 next year.

 State Election Commissioner Harendra Nath Bora said that, the state election commission is planning to hold the panchayat poll ahead of the High School Leaving Ceritificate (HSLC) examination conducted by SEBA.

“We have already sent messages to all District Commissioners and SDO to make preparedness of the panchayat poll. We are planned to hold the panchayat poll in two or three phases starting from January next year,” the state election commissioner said.

The state election commissioner also said that, the state election commission also wrote to the state government regarding the poll matter.

Meanwhile, the state election commission had issued a notification (SEC.24/2017/55) on November 17 last and fixing the maximum limits of expenditure in panchayat election.

According to the notification, expenditure limit of Rs 6.40 lakh is fixed for Zila Parishad member, while Rs 1.60 lakh for Anchalik Panchayat member and Gaon Panchayat president and Rs 16,000 for Gaon Panchayat member.

On the other hand, the state election commission also asked the DCs and SDOs to submit the report of latest position of ballot boxes after repairing.
