Assam-Nagaland govt agreed to resolve border disputes issue

Guwahati, Aug 21 (IBNS) : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Nagaland counterpart TR Zeliang on Thursday said that, the both states will be making sincere efforts to resolve inter-state border disputes.

During a meeting on the issue of Assam-Nagaland border disputes held in Guwahati, both the state governments had agreed to resolve the issue by coordination in presence of MOS Home Kiren Rijiju.

“We have agreed to resolve the issue and it has been finalized to make coordination committees in district level, state level,” Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang said.

“We have assured to the people of Assam living in Nagaland will be protected, no intimidation or threat to them,” Zeliang said.

The Assam CM Tarun Gogoi said it was a positive and good beginning.

“Both states sincerely want to restore peace and harmony in border areas,” Gogoi said.

“We appealed to the Union government to give more power to the neutral forces and deployed more forces in Assam-Nagaland border,” Assam CM Said.

Meanwhile, the Assam state government had constituted a judicial inquiry committee to prove the police firing incidents in Golaghat district, where at least four protesters were killed and 42 others injured.

The Nagaland CM said that, the state government also constituted an inquiry committee to prove the incident on Aug 12 in Assam-Nagaland border, where alleged Naga miscreants killed 16 residents of Assam side.

On other hand, MOS Home Kiren Rijiju said that, a joint mechanism to be worked to defuse border tension between the two states and restored peace.

“Union government will support the both states to resolve the historical problem,” Rijiju said.
