Arun Jaitley critical, Amit Shah visits him at hospital

New Delhi, Aug 16 (IBNS): Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who was admitted to Delhi's AIIMS hospital last week with breathing troubles, is in critical condition, media reports said on Friday.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister Harsh visited Jaitley at the AIIMS on Friday late night.

On Aug 9, Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS. He has been undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors.

Jaitley had stepped down as the Finance Minister earlier this year citing health troubles.

He had also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to keep him out of his newly formed Cabinet after a kidney transplant.

Jaitley had then informed the PM that he wished to opt out of the new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over health issues.

In a letter, Jaitley had urged Modi not to give him any responsibility of the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government for now.

"I am writing to you to formally request you that I should be allowed a reasonable time for myself, my treatment and my health and, therefore, not be a part of any responsibility, for the present, in the new Government," Jaitley had wrote.
