Amit Shah's meeting with eight ministers fuels cabinet reshuffle buzz

New Delhi, Aug 31 (IBNS) : Amid speculations over a possible cabinet reshuffle, BJP President Amit Shah held a meeting at his residence with eight ministers on Thursday, while in a significant reply Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, told reporters that he may not have to shoulder the additional responsibility of the Defence Ministry for long.

Among the ministers who met Shah is Arun Jaitley, who was entrusted with the additional charge after Manohar Parrikar shifted to Goa as Chief Minister earlier this year.

Jaitley was  asked by reporters how long he would continue as Defence Minister. "At least I hope not very long," he replied.

The possibly of a  major reshuffle before the 2019 national election is expected before Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaves on Sunday for a BRICS summit in China.

A reshuffle is being expected in the background of shifting alliances with parties like the Janata Dal (United) of Nitish Kumar joining the BJP-led NDA.

Also, Venkaiah Naidu's elevation to the post of Vice President has also opened up two key ministries which he was looking after while the environment ministry has been reassigned as additional charge after the death of Anil Dave.

According to media reports, the BJP may also accommodate leaders like Bhupendra Yadav, the in-charge of Gujarat, with an eye on elections in the state later this year.

Amit Shah has been meeting ministers and leaders in the past few days and today held discussions with eight ministers.
