2 killed in Howrah petrol pump fire

Kolkata, Jun 17 (IBNS): At least two persons were killed as a massive fire broke out at a petrol pump at Salkia Babudanga area in Kolkata's twin city Howrah on Saturday night, reports said.

According to reports, the fire was first seen at around 8:45 pm. inside the petrol pump's office.

As many as four fire tender engines and local police rushed to the scene and firemen fought four hours to douse the blaze.

Rescue workers recovered at least two bodies from the gutted office.

Identities of the deceased were yet to be established.

Fire department and police have started investigation into the case to know the exact reason behind the blaze.

"After primary probe, we are suspecting that the fire might have started due to a short circuit in an air-conditioning machine," a fire official told IBNS.
