Chennai, Jul 15 (IBNS) : Ten people were killed and at least 23 injured when a bus rammed into a truck carrying steel rods in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district on Friday, media reports said.

NDTV said the steel rods pierced some of the passengers.

The accident took place on an overbridge near Vallam when the state-run bus was on its way to Kumbakonam from Tiruppur. It was carrying about 60 passengers.

According to reports, eight passengers and the drivers of both the vehicles were killed on the spot.

Police said the driver of the bus probably lost control over the vehicle while trying to overtake the truck.
