Sam Altman quashes reports of OpenAI launching Google Search competitor

| @indiablooms | May 13, 2024, at 05:52 pm

San Francisco/IBNS: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has refuted the reports about the San Francisco-based tech company launching a search product on Monday that could rival Google's search engine.

Altman, in a X (formerly Twitter) post, said while OpenAI is going to make an announcement on Monday, it is neither related to gpt-5 nor a search engine.

"Not gpt-5, not a search engine, but we’ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think people will love! feels like magic to me. Monday 10am PT [Pacific Time: GMT-07:00]," OpenAI's CEO's X post read.

OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, also tweeted that it will livestream the demonstration of some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates on Monday.

"We’ll be streaming live on openai.com at 10AM PT Monday, May 13 to demo some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates," OpenAI posted on X.

Recently, it was reported that OpenAI was planning on enhancing the chatbot's capabilities and tapping into a new market by launching a competitor to Google Search, while speculations also claimed that the new search product could be unveiled on May 13, a day before Google I/O.

However, OpenAI CEO has dismissed such rumours, hours before the company's scheduled live stream.
