World's 'oldest man' Masazo Nonaka dies in Japan

Tokyo, Jan 20 (IBNS):  Masazo Nonaka, the Japanese man who was certified by Guinness World Records in April 2018 as the world's oldest living man at 112 years and 259 days, passed away on Sunday, media reports said.

He was 113.

According to reports, he died at his home in northern Japan.

Masazo Nonaka died in the early hours of Sunday while sleeping at home in Ashoro on Japan's northern main island of Hokkaido, his family was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

Born on July 25, 1905, Masazo Nonaka was the owner of a hot springs inn which was operated by his family for four generations.

As per the Guinness World Records website: "Mr Nonaka was born on 25 July 1905 – just two years after the Wright Brothers celebrated the First power-driven flight and just months before Einstein published his special theory of relativity."

Japan and its love for oldest person ever title:

Japan is a country which has witnessed one of the world's highest life expectancy.

According to the Guinness World Records website: "The record holder for the Oldest person ever (male) was also Japanese. Jiroemon Kimurawas born on 19 April 1897 and died aged 116 years 54 days, on 12 June 2013 – four years older than Masazo."

French supremacy:

However, the all-time record for the oldest person ever is held by Jeanne Louise Calment from France, who lived to an unprecedented 122 years 164 days, from 1875-1997, the Guinness World Records website said.
