At least 12 people, including an Indian national, were killed in overnight Russian aerial strikes across Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy said rescue and recovery operations had been underway since the attack, with nearly 350 emergency responders deployed in Kyiv and the surrounding region alone.

He said Russia used a “significant” number of jet-powered drones and ballistic missiles in the overnight strikes, which damaged residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.

“In Boryspil, an ordinary five-story residential building was damaged. Fifty people were evacuated. All necessary services are on the ground. Businesses were also struck. Overall, four people were killed and 13 injured in the city,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that a border crossing with Romania was deliberately damaged, along with export infrastructure.

“In Kyiv, a strike on a railway depot killed seven people,” Zelenskyy said, adding that the Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipro regions also came under attack.

Highlighting the death of a foreign national, Zelenskyy said, “Overall, 12 people were killed, among them an Indian citizen, and dozens more were injured in the attack.”

“My condolences to everyone who has lost family and loved ones,” he added.

The strikes came as Russian President Vladimir Putin was visiting Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, to attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.

According to UN monitors, 1,396 Ukrainian civilians were killed and 7,978 injured during the first six months of 2026. The UN humanitarian office, OCHA, said July was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022, the first full month of the war.
