Utrecht, Mar 18 (IBNS): Several people are feared to have been injured in a shooting incident in Dutch city of Utrecht on Monday, media reports said.

The incident unfolded on or near a tram, according to Joost Lanshage, spokesman for the police in central Holland, reported CNN.

As per local police, the incident occurred in 24th of October Square.

The area has been closed down, reports said.

"A shooting occurred on the #24oktoberplein in #Utrecht. The incident has been reported at 10.45 hour. Multiple people have been injured. The surrounding area has been cordoned off and we are investigating the matter," the local police tweeted.

The police operation is currently going on.

Police have started an investigation into the incident.

The fresh incident is coming to light just days after New Zealand's Christchurch city witnessed a terror attack when a gunman attacked two mosques in the region and left 50 people killed.

The main suspect has been arrested.
