UFO over Tehran? Mysterious bright object sparks frenzy amid Iran tensions

Videos shared on social media showed a brightly lit object slowly hovering over the Iranian capital. Iranian authorities have not publicly identified the object so far.

Interestingly, the latest UFO-related episode over Tehran comes almost 50 years after a documented aerial incident in the city on September 19, 1976.

Officials have not disclosed where the latest object was spotted, although some social media users claimed it was seen near the Azadegan Expressway in Tehran.

The video emerged amid heightened tensions involving Iran, the US and Israel.

The clip triggered speculation online, with users debating whether the mysterious object was an unidentified flying object or simply a multicoloured kite.

Two Reddit users offered differing views on the footage. One questioned whether locals would fly a kite in a war zone at around 10 p.m., CyberNews reported.

Meanwhile, the US Virtual Embassy in Iran issued a travel advisory urging Americans currently in the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance and be prepared for potential flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions.

“Do not travel to Iran for any reason. U.S. citizens should leave Iran now,” the advisory said.

The latest incident has brought back memories of the reported UFO sighting over Tehran in 1976.

On September 19, 1976, Iranian authorities reportedly received reports of a bright object in the sky over Tehran. Iran subsequently scrambled F-4 fighter jets to investigate the sighting.
