A police officer assigned to guard a polio vaccination team was shot dead on Saturday when armed terrorists opened fire on them in Balochistan, Pakistan.

According to Chaman Deputy Commissioner Habib Ahmed Bangulzai, the vaccination team was carrying out routine immunization activities when motorcycle-riding assailants launched the attack, reported Dawn News.

The deceased officer was identified as Police Constable Nizamuddin, who died on the spot while protecting the vaccination team.

Fortunately, the polio workers remained unharmed, as they were inside a house administering vaccines to children at the time of the shooting.

The constable’s body has been shifted to Civil Hospital Chaman for legal formalities. Police have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers.
