Road accident kills 9, injures 51 in Ghana

Accra/Xinhua: Nine people were killed and 51 others severely injured in a road accident in the eastern Ghanaian town of Monkra on Saturday, said local police.

The accident happened when a cargo truck carrying mourners from a funeral overturned when the driver tried to park the truck off a road to deal with a mechanical fault.

Three people died on the spot and six more died after they were taken to a nearby hospital, said the police, adding that the injured are still in a critical condition.

Investigation about the accident is underway.
