A container vessel was struck by a suspected projectile off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, according to a British maritime security agency.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received a report of an incident approximately 25 nautical miles northwest of Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE.

“UKMTO has received a report of an incident 25NM northwest of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE,” the agency said in a statement.

“The master of a container vessel reported that the ship sustained damage from a suspected but unidentified projectile,” the agency added.

UKMTO said the extent of the damage remains unclear.

“The master additionally reports that all crew members are safe and accounted for,” the agency said.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. UKMTO advised vessels operating in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region, with Iran carrying out retaliatory strikes following recent United States and Israel actions.
